More Red-Tailed Black Cockatoo facts....
The red-tailed black-cockatoo is a large Aussie bird with a prominent black crest. Adult males are glossy black with bright red panels in the tail, while females and juveniles have yellow spots on their heads and shoulders, yellow bars on the chest and yellow/orange tail panels. They are mainly found in drier habitats near rivers across the northern half of the country, as well as limited isolated distribution in the south. Nesting in old eucalypt tree hollows high above the ground, red-tailed black cockatoos mostly eat eucalyptus seeds, although they are also known to eat a wide variety of both native and introduced grains. They are noisy, raucous, and are known to fly in flocks of up to 500 birds.
