An Australian relative of the Black Widow spider.  Just as their American relatives do, the female Red Back Spider will eat the male in their mating ritual.
More Red Back Spider facts....
The Red Back Spider is one of the more infamous Aussie icons. It earned its name by the distinctive orange-red stripe on its' black back. Found all over Australia, they frequently come into contact with humans because they love to build their homes in wood piles, outdoor sheds and outdoor toilets. Since the development of an anti-venom vaccine, there have been no human deaths as a result of a red back bite.
